Sophy & Kyle's Wedding | All you need is Love
Sophy and Kyle are infectiously in love and truly enjoy eachothers company. So when you are around them, you can’t help but feel uplifted and happy! Their wedding day was picture perfect. A super hot late Spring day at the end of May. The ceremony and reception took place at Crown Point’s beautiful Court House.
The bridesmaids and Sophy got ready at Sophy’s parents house in Crown Point. Kyle and the groomsmen got ready at their house in Crown Point, just off the square.
How did you first meet?
Originally, we went to Gingerbread preschool together :) we went to different grade schools and middle schools, but both went to Crown Point High School. We had mutual friends in common and knew of each other, but our paths finally crossed senior year of college when we both took History of Rock and Roll. We saw each other after the first class, said "hey!" and then went our separate ways. We ran into each other at a party the first week of classes and started talking, but left before we could exchange numbers. Kyle sent me a Facebook message that night and the rest is history :)
What is your favorite way to spend time together?
Snuggling on our couches watching any streaming service, grabbing dinner, or taking walks around our neighborhood.
How did you know HE was THE ONE?
I always thought he was cute! The very first time we hung out, it just felt comfortable and natural. He's just so down to earth and balances me out perfectly. There was no one "aha" moment, more like a million little things that added up to "I want to spend the rest of my life with this guy."
How did you know SHE was THE ONE?
There has never been a reason to not fall for her. She's funny, quick, and as sharp as could be, and every second with her has been fantastic. If I had to nail it down to a specific occasion, it would be seeing her with my family. She has always not only fit in with my family, but quickly became everyone's favorite.
How did he propose?
Thanksgiving is a big holiday for my family and we have people come in from all over the country. Kyle said it would be nice to have a date night before things got hectic with the holiday. Since Kyle’s family was celebrating Thanksgiving the next day, Kyle said Gingerbread Preschool was having a bake sale and they had to pick some treats up for dinner the next day before we went to the restaurant. I was completely oblivious and was excited at the prospect of baked goods. We pulled up to the school and while it was odd there was only one car in the parking lot, I didn’t find this too suspicious. Kyle suggested it would be fun to check out our “old stomping grounds” and go play on the jungle gym. I was a bit anxious because I still had the bake sale in mind and thought the sweet little old lady waiting for us would get upset if we took even longer to get the sweets. Kyle led me up the steps of the jungle gym and quickly turned on lights he had set up earlier. He got down on one knee and said the sweetest words that neither of us can remember. Like the lady I am, I responded with "Holy sh*t! Absolutely!!!" We both cried and kissed and hugged and took some blurry selfies to commemorate the moment.
Kyle and Sophy decided to do a first look and get a bunch of the bridal party and family pictures out of the way. Kyle’s reaction when he first saw Sophy was priceless. He started dancing like ‘Heck yeah, this girl is mine!”
Without knowing the spot Jamie and I picked for the first look was right by the stone that her parents bought for their wedding with their names and wedding date! What a sweet gift and a great place to visit from now on.
Who stood up in your wedding?
We both had friends and family from all parts of life stand beside us on our special day. It was so great to have our best friends, cousins, & siblings help us and celebrate with us.
Kyle's cousin Spencer Luzwick, who's more like his big brother, was our best man.
Sophy's college roommate & best friend Emily Papamihalakis was our maid of honor.
Describe your wedding style in 3 words…
Classic, simple, natural
What were your wedding colors?
Pale yellow and navy blue. We knew we wanted a spring wedding and yellow just felt like the perfect compliment. Kyle's always wanted a reason to buy a navy suit, so it worked out well
Were there any challenges planning your wedding?
We had about a year to plan and got the big things (photographer, venue, DJ) booked early and that was so helpful! Our biggest challenge was navigating Covid. We had plans A, B, C, and D ready to go, but were so fortunate that our original date was far enough out and vaccines became reality. Pinterest was great for getting ideas and concepts.
What piece of advice would you pass on to future brides and grooms?
Before you plan or book anything, sit down with each other and come up with 1 to 2 "must-haves" each. That way you know what's most important to your future spouse and what they are most looking forward to. Expecting things to not go 100% as planned is not inherently expecting them to go badly! And as everyone will tell, take a moment the day of to just soak it all in. The day flies by, and having that moment with just the 2 of you to remember that everyone is there because of how much they love you and to celebrate your love for each other.
What made you choose Carmen & Jamie as your wedding photographers?
Carmen & Jamie had photographed some friends' weddings and I had been stalking their work for a while. When it came time to book for our wedding, we knew they were the ones we wanted. We met with them at Sip Coffeehouse and we just clicked! We knew we made the right choice, and it was just solidified when we took our engagement pictures with them. We were a little nervous and awkward at first, but they immediately put us at ease and made us feel so comfortable.
The Lake County Courthouse is a magical place to have a wedding. The Ball room is renovated and was so bright and inviting.
Sophy and Kyle we had the best time celebrating your wedding day and it’s been amazing getting to know you. We wish you the best for your future and keep dancing through life together!

The Vendors
Sophy’s Ring | Moriarty's - I knew I wanted a specific style to complement my engagement ring, and we wanted to go the custom route, so we chose Moriarty's. They were so wonderful and helpful, and did a fantastic job with our bands! We couldn't be happier with our choice!
Wedding Gown | Something Blue Bridal - I wanted a boho-style dress that felt comfortable, but classic. The sleeves and fit of the dress made it the one.
Bridesmaid Dresses | Azazie - my bridesmaids were spread out, so I wanted something that was easy for everyone. I told them the color, and they picked whichever dress they loved the most.
Suits | Men's Warehouse - MaryAnne at the Merrillville/Hobart location was the best and made it so easy for everyone to get their suits.
Flowers | Bryan's Florist - the Bryan's are our cousins, so it made the choice extra easy! We met with them and brainstormed style's, but when it came down to specific flowers, the only request we had was for lily of the valley in my bouquet and Kyle's boutonniere. My mom had lily of the valley (the she picked from her parent's house) in her bouquet and I wanted to carry that tradition on.
Video & DJ | 27 Entertainment - they were the best and we had so much fun with them!!
Officiant | Kyle’s aunt Karen Rodd
Gifts | We ordered personalized matchboxes from For Your Party (targeted instagram ads :P)
I ordered robes for the girls to get ready through Etsy and birthstone necklaces for them from Into the Pines jewelry. Kyle got the groomsmen ties through Amazon and personalized coolers.

Hair & Makeup | True Beauty by Dana was our absolutely wonderful make-up magician. She had done the make-up for my cousin's wedding and I knew I had to book her! Cheri from Top Knot Bridal was our fantastic hair artist! She was recommended to us and stepped in at the last minute and was just absolutely delightful. She made all my hair dreams come true!

This blog post is dedicated to Sophy’s Great Aunt, "Auntie" Anne Krpan.
My great aunt was 95 and independent to the end. She never married and never had kids, but she was really like a “bonus” grandma to all of us. She was quick-witted, direct, and didn’t take crap from anyone!
